Cecilienhof und Sanssouci in Potsdam
What a frigid yet beautiful day we had! We not only visited the vacation home of a Prussian king but we also walked through the building where world leaders negotiated Europe's future after WW2. Too bad that we could not fotografieren in the palace. Can't believe tomorrow is our last day in Friesack. Tomorrow we have our Farewell party, kegeln, and Schützenhaus. On Thursday it's off to Erfurt snow or shine!

Rathenow
Toured the small town of Rathenow. Climbed the bell tower of the town church and went to the optic museum where we learned that Mr Duncker of Rathenow provided the world with glasses beginning in 1801! Quote of the day - "so basically I am looking at glasses that are older than the United States." Basically, yeah! It's hard for us to imagine living in a culture where the majority of the population doesn't read - not because they're uneducated or underdeveloped but because the printing press was not yet invented. When those who were fortunate enough to get glasses did acquire a pair, they were being produced on a crank machine being powered by children whose fathers hadn't returned home from war. Talk about OLD world.

Fotos!
Our first/last Schultag. A few others mixed in as well. We had a traditional German lunch of pork meatloaf with potatoes and red cabbage and I THAT was a new culinary experience. Lets just say that Rotkohl is probably an acquired taste. Our kids are doing a great job of trying new things and are being great guests so far from what I have heard.
